Easter Scramble

This week we were scrambling to get our house ready for the Huntsmans to stay. Trent's dear hard-working Grandma Huntsman died last week and her funeral was this week. It was sweet to celebrate her life and so right to have her funeral when daffodils and tulips are all around. So wonderful too to be reminded of the resurrection at Easter.

Norah Kathleen (Kay) Huntsman

1919 ~ 2011

Norah Kathleen (Kay) Huntsman passed away April 14, 2011 in Toquerville, UT. She was born May 24, 1919 in Porterville, CA, the second of six children born to Timothy O'Brien Woodham and Goldie Agnes Reed Woodham.

Kay had a lifelong love of learning and was an excellent student. She graduated from Susanville High (CA) with honors and attended Susanville Jr. College on scholarship. She attended business school in San Francisco studying accounting. She moved to Pasadena where she did accounting for Pasadena High School.

She met her husband, Delbert Huntsman, in Overton, Nevada, while visiting family there. They were married June, 3, 1939 in Washington, Utah. Delbert died on May 11, 1972. Their marriage was solemnized in the Provo Temple, July 14, 1974.

In the early years of their marriage they spent many happy, carefree hours trapping, fishing and riding motorcycles in the mountains and deserts around Lake Mead. After making many moves with Delbert's employment they settled in Pleasant Grove where she has lived for over 65 years. She loved the people there, and we thank all the compassionate neighbors and ward members who watched over her and loved her. Also we thank Annette Kleinman of Southern Utah Home Health and Hospice who cared for her before her passing.

Kay was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a member of Mt. Mahogany 4th Ward. She served in the Primary for many years and especially loved teaching the Blazer Boys. She also taught in the Relief Society. She was a very humble woman who loved Jesus Christ and showed it through her many caring acts.

She enjoyed reading, yard sales, DI, cheering on BYU and the JAZZ, but most of all gardening. She loved to see the fruits of her labor bottled and preserved on the shelf. Scores of people have benefited from her gardens and canning. She was known as an extremely hard worker and passed through many trials with courage and dignity. She retired from the Utah State Training School after 31 years of service. No one ever loved the children there more or was kinder to them.

She is survived by six of her seven children: Lory Ray (Tiny) & Patti Huntsman, Palmer, AK; Delma Olsen, Pleasant Grove, UT; Michael & Camille Huntsman, Cleveland, UT; Russell & Shirley Huntsman, Heber, UT; LouJean & Ray McQuivey, Toquerville, UT; Frances Harris, Joseph, UT; Daughter-in-law Olivia Huntsman; Thirty-seven grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren; Sister Jeanie Schmidt, Clovis, CA.

She is preceded in death by her husband Delbert; Son, Stacey; Grandchildren: Eric Huntsman, Rodney Olsen, Jeni Vigil; Great Grandchildren: Delbert Olsen, Brock Huntsman, Mark Huntsman, Lily Chadsey; Son-in-law, Gary Olsen; Her parents and siblings: Brien Woodham, Frances Clement, Alice Otto, and Louise Krugar.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Mahogany 4th Ward Chapel, (1548 N. 900 W, Pleasant Grove) with viewing the night before at Olpin Family Mortuary (494 South 300 East Pleasant Grove) 6:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church.
